Deadline to apply for CBO’s 2022 Summer Internship Program is FEBRUARY 28, 2022

Less than a week is left for students to submit an application to CBO’s 2022 Summer Internship Program. This is a unique paid program that allows master’s and Ph.D. students to obtain real-life experience in policymaking and the federal budget process. We seek students pursuing degrees in economics, public policy, public affairs, health policy, finance, and other quantitative fields. Students should submit a cover letter indicating their skills for and interest in an internship, a resume, an unofficial copy of transcripts (first-year graduate students MUST also submit an unofficial copy of their undergraduate transcripts), and contact information for 2 references (preferably an employment and academic) at www.cbo.gov/careers no later than Monday, February 28 EST. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.

I have attached a brief overview of the available projects this year. Students can indicate any interest in their cover letter. If an application as already been submitted and they would like to demonstrate an interest in the certain project(s), the letter can be updated by logging back into their account at www.cbo.gov/careers.  Please do not email us with this information.

CBO can consider US citizens and non-citizens

who are permanent residents of the US seeking citizenship. We do not sponsor.

We look forward to the opportunity to consider your students.

Thank you for your assistance in spreading the word.

  • Demonstrate academic strengths, leadership, and community involvement.
  • Be a citizen of the United States.
  • Be a permanent resident of Southern California (area defined from the Kern County border to the California/Mexico border).

  • Be a full-time student. Undergraduate students must complete 12 to 18 units per semester and achieve degree completion within 4 years, unless in a 5-year program such as Architecture. Graduate students must complete 8 or more units per semester in a Master’s program and 6 or more units per semester in a Doctoral program and be considered full-time by the graduate program. Students working on dissertations do not qualify for scholarships.

Categories of Applicants

Incoming Freshmen: Incoming freshmen must have taken the most demanding curriculum and achieved the highest academic levels during their high school careers. SAT and ACT scores must fall in the top 2% to 3% of students nationwide. Due to COVID-19, T&GUSC will follow the university’s admissions policy regarding test score submission. Applicants may choose whether to share their test scores or not. Applicants will not be at a disadvantage if they have not taken the SAT or ACT or have chosen not to share the scores. If students choose to submit their scores, T&GUSC will take them into consideration.

The recommended un-weighted GPA is 3.8. Leadership, community involvement, and activities are considered in the award process.

Current Undergraduate Students: Current USC undergraduate student applicants and transfer students who have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.4 are eligible for a scholarship. Leadership, community involvement, and activities are considered in the award process.

The Reimagine Challenge 2020

MEMORANDUM

To: USC Students
From: Elizabeth A. Graddy
Executive Vice Provost

Date: August 28, 2020

Subject:   New Scholarship Opportunity

I want to let you know about an exciting scholarship opportunity announced recently through the philanthropic initiative Schmidt Futures. The Reimagine Challenge 2020 calls on college and university students to imagine what is possible during this unique time in our history.

Interested students will be required to submit a short, written project proposal that addresses one of two topics:

  • Sparking a Global Movement

What is one concrete way that you could motivate one million people to work together to make the world meaningfully better within ten years? What would you do, what would be the key steps to grow an effective massive action, and why would this have significant impact? Why should we have confidence that you will succeed and how would we know that you had succeeded?

  • Community Impact from COVID-19

What is the most surprising or unusual insight you have had about your community in the wake of the pandemic? Given this insight, what is the most important concrete action that you and a growing group of others could take to help your community or country better respond to changes resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic? How would you and we know you had succeeded?

Up to 20 final entries will be selected as winners to be published in an online anthology and up to $1 million will be awarded in scholarships and prizes. Each winning author will receive up to $25,000 in scholarships, as well as garnering an additional $25,000 award to our university.

We hope you will consider this opportunity to engage with your peers on innovative solutions to some of our world’s greatest challenges as we move forward during this crucial moment in history.
