Announcing the Dean’s Professional Development Fund

Dear students,

I hope that your fall semester has been productive and rewarding. As we reflect on our students’ academic achievements, please know that we also recognize the importance of your professional development. I am launching the Dean’s Professional Development Fund in support of our students’ engagement in professional conferences.

If you attended a professional conference this fall semester, you can submit a request to receive $250 toward the expenses of the conference. The application will open on Friday, December 15 at 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time. At that time, to apply, follow this link to answer a few questions and upload your proof of conference registration. As you prepare for the launch of the survey, you can consider your responses to these questions:

  • What were your goals for the conference?
  • How does the conference content relate to your academic studies?

Please note that funding is limited, and will be awarded in the order that completed requests are received. When the total number of available awards have been granted, there will be no further fall opportunities. To be considered, your application must be complete, with thorough responses to the questions on the submission form.

Those of you attending conferences in the spring will have an opportunity to request funding next semester.

I am pleased to be able to support our students’ development as you strengthen your professional practice.

Sincerely,

Pedro A. Noguera Ph.D.

Nominations now open for the 2024 Dean’s Student Advisory Council

OCL Students,

Please see the important message below regarding the Rossier Dean’s Student Advisory Council:

Warm wishes to you as you approach the end of your fall semester! As you wrap up your coursework or research, I want you to know of an opportunity to get involved in the student experience at Rossier.

Dean Noguera is looking forward to the second year of his Dean’s Student Advisory Council, which he created to increase the student voice and improve the student experience. The Rossier Dean’s Student Advisory Council brings together a group of Rossier students to guide the Dean and school leaders on important issues throughout the year.

The Council will meet with the Dean once or twice in the spring 2024 semester. Meetings will be held at 4:00 p.m. Pacific Time, in hybrid format both on campus and online to accommodate members who are not able to attend on campus. Students who are selected as members will serve until the end of the spring semester. If you would like to nominate yourself for the Council, please indicate your interest here:

https://usc.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9YtRtNEzUIxLw8K

Nominations for spring will close on Friday, December 15.

Student Advisory Council members will be selected from among the nominations by a group representing Rossier staff, faculty, and students. The selection committee’s goal will be to identify members representative of the degree programs, both on campus and online, with a passion for improving the student experience at Rossier. Consideration will also be given to increasing the number of voices in such conversations with the Dean.

The Dean looks forward to hearing from students who would like to join these discussions, and to sharing the results of these conversations with all Rossier students.

Sincerely,

Jessica Gibson

Message from Dean Noguera

Dear students,

This month, the university announced that it will shift support services for several online programs in-house and transition away from external support provided by 2U for those offerings. This includes USC Rossier’s master of arts in teaching, master of arts in teaching—teaching English to speakers of other languages, master of education in school counseling and doctorate in organizational and change leadership. This change will be rolled out through May 2024.

We are deeply proud of these programs and our incredible faculty, staff and students at USC Rossier, and are excited and committed to furthering their growth. The high quality of each of these degree programs will be maintained and expanded upon through our efforts.

USC Rossier already offers several outstanding online programs with all support provided in-house, and I am confident that servicing our online MAT, OCL, TESOL and SC programs will be seamlessly internalized through our talented team’s incredible ability and commitment to quality.

The school has assembled a transition team to lead us through this process. You will receive an invitation in the coming days to a community discussion about this news where you will be able to have your questions about this transition answered by members of this leadership team.

USC Rossier School of Education is focused on maximizing its impact. People throughout the world look to our institution for hope and ideas about creating a more robust and accessible education system. This is an opportunity to innovate and build upon our success, and I look forward to continuing our work.

Sincerely,

Pedro A. Noguera Ph.D.
